Protea Wellbeing

Crisis Support and Immediate Help

If You Need Urgent Support

Counselling services are not designed to provide emergency mental health intervention.

If you are experiencing severe emotional distress, are unable to keep yourself safe, or require urgent support, please seek immediate assistance.

If You Are Experiencing Suicidal Thoughts

If you are having thoughts of ending your life, have developed plans to act on these thoughts, or are concerned about your immediate safety, it is important to access emergency support. You can:

Contact your GP and request an urgent appointment.
Contact your local NHS Mental Health Crisis Team.
Attend your nearest Accident and Emergency Department.
Call 999 if you are in immediate danger.

Additional Sources of Support

You may also find the following organisations helpful:

  • Samaritans – available 24 hours a day for anyone experiencing emotional distress. Call 116 123 free from any phone.
  • NHS 111 – for urgent medical advice and support when it is not a 999 emergency.
  • Shout – a confidential text support service. Text SHOUT to 85258 to speak with a trained volunteer.

Seeking urgent support is a sign of strength and an important step towards keeping yourself safe.

Accessing Counselling Following Crisis

Individuals experiencing significant distress may benefit from counselling alongside additional support from experienced mental health professionals.

Protea Wellbeing may not always be the most appropriate service during periods of acute crisis. However, where possible, we will endeavour to signpost individuals towards services that can best meet their immediate needs.
